28 held for Thevar Jayanthi ruckus

Twenty-eight youths were arrested in Madurai after being charged with unruly and violent conduct during the celebration of Thevar Jayanthi on October 30.

The arrests were made on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 1.30 pm when 30 youths who took part in the celebrations, boarded a government bus plying between Periyar bus stand to Natham, created ruckus and damaged the front glasses of the bus at Goriplayam. Tallakulam police filed a case against them for unlawful assembly and damaging government property. As a result of sustained investigation by analysing footages recorded from drone cameras, 28 accused were arrested, Prem Anand Sinha, Commissioner of Police, Madurai City, said.
