According to police, Parthiban (59) of Mudaliarpet was returning to Puducherry from Cuddalore with his grand daughter Venbha (1) as her parents in Cuddalore were suffering from chicken pox.

When the car reached Poornakuppam located near the union territory on the Cuddalore road in the wee hours of Sunday, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car immediately hit a barricade causing serious injuries to all the three occupants of the vehicle.

Based on the information, Kirumambakkam police rushed to the spot and rescued the three from the mangled vehicle and sent them to the hospital. However, Parthiban and his grand daughter were declared brought dead at the government general hospital here while the driver Sudhakar is receiving treated in a private hospital.

The Kirumambakkam police have registered a case and are investigating.
