10 hurt in multi-vehicle collision on Salem-Coimbatore NH

COIMBATORE: A multiple-vehicle collision occurred on the Salem-Coimbatore national highway as a lorry laden with gravel stone made a sudden halt, injuring 10 in Namakkal on Wednesday.

Traffic was disrupted on the busy stretch for more than two hours due to the mishap. The lorry was en route to Thrissur in Kerala from Virudhachalam when its driver, Samiyappan, suddenly applied brakes.

As the truck came to a sudden halt, four other vehicles, including cars and vans, rammed behind one by one. The series of mishaps left ten persons injured, including some youth, who were bound to Coimbatore from Salem to play cricket.

On receiving information, the Kumarapalayam police rushed to the spot and began to regulate traffic. A case has been registered, and further inquiries are underway.
