Top seeds take a beating in PC Open

The doubles pairing of Suresh Kumar and Mohan Sunder caused a major upset when they knocked out third seeds Dilip Singh and Tuleswor Thongbam 6-3, 7-6(4) in the men’s doubles category of 45+ of the PC Open here on Tuesday.

The top seeds in the singles category, too, struggled as in the 35+ category, first seed Dilip Mohanty lost to Sunil Harry in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. The third seed Muthukumar Subramanian also met the same fate as he went down tamely to C Nagarajan 2-6, 1-6. In the 45+ singles, Tikam Panwar earned a straight sets win 7-5, 6-4 over Karamjeet Singh Parmar. The second and third seeds Karan Kulwant Singh and Himanshu Shankar lost in straight sets.
