Tamil Nadu’s Vijay Shankar to vice-captain South Zone team

Tamil Nadu’s Vijay Shankar will be R Vinay Kumar’s deputy in the 16-member South Zone team in the all-India inter-zonal Twenty20 tournament for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, to be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from February 12.

The selection panel announced the team after the conclusion of the inter-state tournament in Chennai. Karnataka won the title on net run-rate after both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu finished the sixteam league with 16 points following four wins from five matches.

Tamil Nadu’s Dinesh Karthik, Rahil S Shah and Dinesh Karthik also find a place in the squad that includes former India international S Arvind. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be played on an inter-zonal basis for the first time. All matches in the all-play-all round-robin league will be hosted at the Wankhede, with the last set of fixtures scheduled for February 18.
