Lakshmi clinches women’s badminton title

Third seed Lakshmi Priyanka came up trumps in the women’s singles category as she won the final in dominating fashion against Madurai’s Jerlin Anika in the Tamil Nadu Senior Badminton Championship in Karur.

She won the summit clash 21-12, 21-6. Sankar, who is the youngest men’s singles finalist, lost to Coimbatore’s Satish Kumar. He fell 21-17, 10-21, 10-21 in a 1 hour and 14-minute contest. The event was held from August 29 to September 2. Lakshmi and Sankar bagged the Player of the tournament award for women and men respectively. Sankar had recently been selected to represent India at Asian Junior Championship in October in Burma after his gold and silver medal finishes in Nagpur and Hyderabad Sub-junior national ranking tournaments.
