Kavya fights to win TT gold

Tamil Nadu’s Kavya Shree had to dig deep to clinch the gold medal in the Under-14 Girls’ category of the 63rd National School Games Table Tennis Championships in Vadodara.

Kavya overcame Delhi’s Lakshita Narang 3-2 in a pulsating final. She took the first two games 11-9, 11-7 and seemed on course for an easy win. But Lakshita fought back to take the next two 9-11, 8-11 and take it to the decider. Kavya, however, held her nerve and took the final game 11-7 to pocket the gold. 

Tamil Nadu’s Kowshika V (Under-19 Girls) and Piyush Sagar (Under-19 Boys) also won their third-place playoffs to win a bronze medal each.
