Joshna enters quarter-finals

India’s top professional Joshna Chinappa is in the quarterfinal of the prestigious US Open, a PSA world series event being held here. The Indian star, ranked 13 in the world had a tough fight in hand as she came back from two games down to beat the Egyptian Heba El Torky in the opening round of 32.

The final scores in Joshna’s favour were 7-11, 4-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-7. The ninth seeded Indian next plays second seed Larra Massaro of England in the pre-quarterfinal. 

But for the other Indian leading player Dipika Pallikal Karthik, it was loss straight away, succumbing to the relentless Amanda Sobhy of US after putting up an initial resistance. Amanda won 7-11, 11-2, 11-1, 11-4.
