Indian boxer Shiva Thapa bags Silver at Asian Boxing Championships

The fourth seed Thapa missed gold after losing to local Elnur Abduraimov in a split verdict after a head-butt from his opponent resulted in a cut.

Indian boxer Shiva Thapa (60kg) bagged silver medal at the Asian Boxing Championships here today.

The fourth seed Thapa missed gold after losing to local Elnur Abduraimov in a split verdict after a head-butt from his opponent resulted in a cut.

Thapa is the first Indian to claim three back-to-back medals at the continental showpiece. Earlier, the boxer won gold in 2013 and a bronze in 2015.

In the semi-final yesterday Thapa won against Olympic bronze-medallist  Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai of Mongolia. 

Meanwhile, Gaurav Bidhuri (56kg) of India disappointed after losing to Japan's Ryomei Tanaka for World Championship.  

The World Championships are due to be held in August-September and the top six boxers from each weight category will qualify for the mega-event in Germany.
