Gayatri completes hat-trick in ranking events

Gayatri Gopichand, daughter of renowned coach Gopichand, won her third straight title in the girls under-17 National Ranking Badminton Tournament here on Sunday when she defeated top seed Aakarshi Kashyap of Chattisgarh 21-19, 15-21, 21-18 in the final.

Gayatri had won the first two legs in the six-round ranking circuit at Thiruvananthapuram and Bengaluru. Gayatri’s mother and former international PVV Lakshmi said the final was the No 7 seed’s best effort in Chennai as all the other matches ended in straight games. “Her ranking should now be either 4 or 5 after this victory,” said Lakshmi.
