Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Jolly Rovers had a field day, with opener Gandhi hitting the ball to all parts of the park. The captain’s 271-ball knock was laced with 16 fours and a maximum. On Day One, Gandhi and middle-order batsman B Aparajith, who hit 76, both got past 1000 runs for the season.
At the TI-Murugappa Cricket Ground, S Lokeshwar (125) and Bhargav Merai (108) struck centuries to guide Grand Slam CC to an opening innings total of 400 against Madras CC.
At the Nelson – Wahe Guru Cricket Ground, Nelson SC’s M Poiyamozhi (6/62) bagged a six-wicket haul as his side bowled Alwarpet CC out for 218. Ruturaj Gaikwad (110 not out) played a lone hand for Alwarpet, making more than half the runs. Medium pacer Ashwath Mukunthan (5/72) produced a good spell to help Young Stars CC skittle out AG’s Office RC for 214 at theSSN College Ground. S Parameeswaran (116) smashed his maiden century in the league, for AG’s Office.
India international R Ashwin (5/50) and Rahil Shah (5/115) also did well, for MRC ‘A’ and Globe Trotters SC respectively.
