“70 per cent of Punjab youth is drug addict. If this isn’t stopped, Punjab will soon become like Mexico,” is the opening statement of filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab , which not only explains the core theme of the film, but also throws light on the most important issue — the imminent threat of drug mania that has destroyed Punjab. It also explores the manner in which drug is trafficked in Punjab and how the network has spread. 

The video shows glimpses of four different lives, played by Shahid, Alia, Kareena and Diljit, who have one connection, which is, substance abuse in the state. What also didn’t go unnoticed by many was also how the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared the trailer of Udta Punjab without a single cut or ‘beep.’ The co-producer of the movie Anurag Kashyap took to his Twitter handle to announce the news terming it to be “pleasantly surprising.”
