Four from TN held for smuggling tusks in Karnataka

Four people from Tamil Nadu were arrested in Karnataka for carrying out smuggling activities, and eight elephant tusks were recovered from the gang, the police said. The seized tusks were meant for illegal trade in Jalahalli police station limits, they added.

Four people from Tamil Nadu were arrested in Karnataka for carrying out smuggling activities, and eight elephant tusks were recovered from the gang, the police said. The seized tusks were meant for illegal trade in Jalahalli police station limits, they added.


According to the police, the arrested were identified as Jayashelan of Anakaputhur in Chennai, Unnikrishnan of Mettupalayam in Coimbatore, Madeshwaran of Shankari taluk in Salem, and Vijay of Perundurai in Erode. During interrogation, it was revealed that Madeshwaran and Vijay were supplying elephant tusks to Unnikrishnan and Jayashelan for carrying out illegal trade, the police said on Saturday. The Jalahalli police have registered a case and investigations are on.
