Reporter's Diary: Family before friendship for this politician

If one assumed that it was friendship that drove state Congress president Su Thirunavukkarasar to rush to the defense of ‘Kaala’ Rajinikanth after the latter had uttered the now famous ‘anti-social’ comment about the Thoothukudi protest, then you may not have got it entirely right. There was one more facet to it — family.

According to sources, the Congress chief was mouthing concern for Kaala to protect the professional interests of one of his sons who is understood to be an associate of director Pa Ranjith.

The buzz in Sathyamurthy Bhavan is that Thirunavukkarasar got his son to work with Ranjith, thanks to the Superstar’s influence.

“Hence his voluntary defense of Rajinikanth after the infamous ‘anti-social’ remark,” murmured the khadar-veshti clad source in Sathyamurthy Bhavan. In fact, this is not the first time Thirunavukkarasar’s sons have left him red-faced.

The TNCC president had to go into damage control mode recently when a Whatsapp video of a person ranting about the Superstar using extremely colourful language went viral. After subsequent enquiries, it was revealed that the man in the video was a brother-in-law of his elder son!
