There has been a lot of controversies raised about the ethical nature of fests that are harmful to the environment, besides polluting the beach. What is your take on it?
Most of the festivals are organised at private beaches of hotels or resorts. So, they have to follow the rules and other protocols of the property, and it doesn’t interfere with any of the government restrictions.

With so many international or out-of-town artists being brought down for these events, how does it affect the local talent?
A lot of these music festivals actually encourage the local talents, but they want a headliner artist to sell tickets. It all comes down to business.

What can be done to improve Chennai’s image in this aspect?
We need more multi-genre music fests. Right now, the city is fixated on just hosting electronic music festivals back-to-back.

How important is December for the economy of the music/ nightlife market?
It is definitely a boon for everyone. But more than 50 per cent of the parties fails every year for various reasons. From choosing the right venue, artiste line-up and marketing it to reach the audience, everything matters.
