Shastri Nagar Inspector Praveen Rajesh confirmed the withdrawal of the complaint to DT Next . “The youngsters have withdrawn the complaint. The gave it in writing that they will not press charges,” he said. On Monday, a Community Service Register (CSR) complaint had been filed against actor Suriya for allegedly assaulting Premkumar.
It all started when Lenin Manuel (25) and Prem Kumar (21), both residents of Royapuram, were going on a bike to play football in Adyar. While they were crossing the Thuru Vi Ka bridge, a woman driving a car ahead of the duo, reportedly applied brakes suddenly and the bike hit the car.
This led to an argument between the woman and the duo, actor Suriya, who was passing through that stretch, got down and intervened. According to Premkumar, during the course of the argument, Suriya had slapped him.
Following this, Premkumar lodged a complaint with the police claiming that Suriya did not even try to find out what happened before slapping him.
“We were requesting the woman to compensate for the damaged bike, because there was no fault of ours in the accident. Suriya assumed that we were harassing the woman and slapped me,” he said.
The actor’s manager confirmed that Suriya was present at the spot. However, he denied the allegation of assault. “Suriya stopped to ask them to not misbehave with the woman. He also requested them, the duo and the woman, to move away from the road as there was huge traffic pile up and left the spot,” Suriya’s manager said in a statement.
“The youth did not maintain the mandatory distance between vehicles. Probably, because of this they could have bumped into the car,” a police official earlier said.
