Yoga to be included in NET:UGC

The University Grants Commission (UGC) will include yoga in the list of subjects for National Eligibility Test (NET), said its vice-chairman Prof H Devaraj.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ninth convocation of the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University (TNPESU) in the city on Thursday, Prof H Devaraj said students studying yoga in colleges/ universities in India had to complete PhD to become a faculty so far. 

Now UGC has decided to include yoga in the NET so that graduates in yoga will also become eligible to become faculty in higher education institutions, he said. 

“Yoga and Sanskrit will get more importance in the 12th five-year plan. Union government has decided to allocate Rs 10 crore each to 40 central universities in the country,” said Devaraj.
