Woman and son fatally knocked down by car near Mahabalipuram

A 36-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son were knocked down by a speeding car on East Coast Road near Mahabalipuram on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as S Thilakavathi and her son Thirumurugan of Kalpakkam Kuppam. The police said that Thilakavathi was taking Thirumurugan to his school on Monday morning.


When they were crossing the road near Kovalam, a speeding car coming towards Chennai knocked them down. In the impact, both the mother and son died on the spot. The driver of the car abandoned the vehicle and manage to escape from the spot.


The Mahabalipuram police, who arrived at the spot, retrieved the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination to Chengalpattu Government Hospital. They have also registered a case and search is on to nab the missing car driver. Thilagavathi’s husband Sathiyamoorthy is a fisherman.
