Moorthy of Senkathur village, who was working at a private firm in Chennai, was returning from office on his two-wheeler on July 28 when he met with an accident after his bike skidded near the bridge because the pits dug up as part of the work were not closed. He was rushed to the Chengalpattu government hospital, where he died on Thursday without responding to treatment. Following this, hundreds of villagers gathered before the panchayat office, alleging that the officials’ carelessness led to Moorthy’s death. They claimed that the pits that were dug for the construction should have been closed as the work has been stalled. Maduranthagam DSP Mahendran arrived at the spot and held peace talks with villagers. He said that a case has been registered against the contractor and action would be taken against him soon.
