Vellore heart beats in city

Setting a new benchmark in emergency response, medical teams and the city traffic police managed to transport a heart flown in from Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore to the Chennai Airport and then to Fortis Malar Hospital, Adyar in just 10 minutes

The police created the Green Corridor to move the organ to the hospital.

Time and Distance: 4.30 pm arrived at Chennai Airport, 4.40 pm reached Malar Hospital. At 4.40 pm, organ reaches hospital covering a distance of 11 km in 10 minutes. 

Traffic Regulated:  Signals & route kept open at St Thomas Mount, Kathipara, Little Mount, Raj Bhavan, Madhya Kailash, LB Road Junction, Fortis Malar hospital.

Donor Details

Heart harvested from Selvaram (45), an accident victim declared by CMC. Organ to be implanted in a 37-yearold heart patient.
