CHENNAI: Two siblings were rescued by a police team at Marina Beach on Sunday after they attempted to end their lives by drowning in the sea off the beach.

Police sources said that the sisters were upset as their parents were constantly fighting and initiated separation talks. On Sunday evening, the two women, a 23-year-old and a 19-year-old, were spotted on the shores of the Marina near the ramp for persons with disability, and they suddenly walked into the water.

The public, who noticed the sisters struggling in the water, alerted the police. Rescue swimmers and the patrol team secured the sisters, brought them to safety and administered first aid. They were then taken to the police station where they were enquired.

One of them works at a private firm and the other is a college student, police said. The sisters were pacified and later handed over to their relatives.
