The victim, N Shankar (34), who suffered injuries in his head and shoulder, is undergoing treatment at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital. The Basin Bridge police have arrested the suspects - N Palani (31) and P Karunakaran (37) of Pulianthope - under five different sections of the IPC and remanded them in judicial custody.

The incident happened on Tuesday night after Shankar, a daily wage labourer, returned home from work. When he saw his minor daughter crying, he enquired and found out that their neighbour, Kamalakannan, verbally abused her. Shankar went to Kamalakannan’s house and warned him.

A few hours later, Kamalakannan, Palani and five others, including women, came to Shankar’s house and attacked him with weapons, police said.
