Two killed as car ploughs into crowd

Two people were killed after a car ran amok and rammed into a group of people, while the driver was reversing the vehicle, at Kottivakkam on the East Coast Road (ECR) stretch on Tuesday night

According to police, the incident occurred at an apartment complex in Kottivakkam.Venkatesan (48), who was working as a manager in a bank, lost control of his car and hit five people. The injured were rushed to a nearby private hospital, where two of them succumbed this morning. 

The police said, the bank was located in the apartment complex. Venkatesan, who finished his work for the day, took his car to leave for his home. While reversing the vehicle, instead of applying the brake, he stepped on the accelerator. 

The vehicle sped on and hit a group of five who were standing and chatting. Pyarilal (66), who is an office-bearer in the residents association and Abdul Rahim (42) who is a security guard at the building died after suffering injuries.
