Trio on bike slash cop with knife

A head constable suffered injuries after a trio attacked him with a knife when he stopped them for riding triple on a two-wheeler in Ambattur on Saturday.

The incident took place at around 10 45 am on the bypass road at Kallikuppam. According to a police source, head constable Sivakumar (39), a resident of Tirumullaivoyal, was on duty at a police check post when spotted a trio riding a two-wheeler and stopped them. The police said that Sivakumar began questioning two of them while one of them stood a bit away. While quizzing the duo about their whereabouts, the third person intervened and asked the duo to escape. 

The men got on to the bike and even before Sivakumar could stop them, the person sitting in the middle brandished a knife and cut Sivakumar’s elbow and sped away from the spot. Sivakumar was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he is being administered treatment. The city police are tracing the unidentified bike-borne gang. A senior police source said that they have strong leads, including the vehicle number of the culprits. The Ambattur police have registered cases under IPC section 332 and 506. 

One killed in road mishap

A man was killed in a road mishap on GST Road on Saturday. The police said, Kannan (33) from Villupuram was riding on a two-wheeler along from Tambaram to Chengalpet this morning when an unidentified vehicle ran over him, killing him on the spot.
