Transperson stabs youth over affair with relative, arrested

The Royapettah police arrested a 29-year-old transperson for allegedly stabbing a youth for being in an affair with a relative.

The accused was identified as K Rajesh (29), of Saiva Muthiah Street in Royapettah, said the police, adding that the victim, K Sukumar (23), was also from the same locality. He is presently undergoing treatment at Royapettah Government Hospital.


The police said that Sukumar, who works a food delivery person, was in relationship with a girl in the neighbourhood, which was opposed by the latter’s family. They attacked Sukumar and family at his house on Wednesday, but the victims did not approach the police.


As he was returning from work in the early hours of Tuesday, Sukumar was intercepted by a gang near Periyar statue near VM Street junction. While the two of them held Sukumar, Rajesh attacked him with a knife and fled the spot. On information, Sukumar’s friends rushed him to the hospital. The Royapettah police arrested Rajesh, who was remanded in judicial custody.
