The bundles which were found under a banyan tree had notes with denominations of Rs 100, 500 and 1000. Passers-by who noticed the pile of notes informed the local police. They confiscated the notes and it was taken to the police station. “All the notes have been defaced so that they cannot be circulated,” said the police.

On receiving information, CB-CID personnel and Cuddalore Railway police rushed to the village. Police are probing whether these notes are counterfeit or have been looted in the train heist. They are also of the view that it could have been thrown out by burglars to save themselves.

Value of the notes would be in crores said the sources. Samples of the damaged notes have been sent to Bangalore for a forensic test. The police are now conducting a door to door enquiry at Ko. Kucchipalayam. They are also trying to detect the presence of any strangers in the village.

This is another sensational event that has occurred after a great robbery that occurred in a train on the run between Salem and Chennai in which Rs 6 crores were looted.
