The deceased was identified as M Rahul Dravidakumar of Sundarampillai Nagar in Tondiarpet and the missing boy M Vijay is also from the same locality, said police. The duo has just completed Class 12 and was working for a telecom company as SIM card distributors.

On Monday morning, they went to the Tiruchanankuppam beach and as they were swimming in the deep side of the sea, both of them were sucked in by a giant wave. Fishermen who found them struggling in the water managed to rescue Rahul in an unconscious state and rushed him to Government Stanley Hospital. He died without responding to treatment within minutes.

On information, Tiruvottiyur police rushed to the beach and launched a rescue operation for the missing teen with the help of fishermen. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
