On finding Sarala (42) lying in a pool of blood with deep cut injuries on her head, her husband Sekar, who had stoutly defended his son in court and even allegedly threatened the rape victim’s father, had filed a complaint against Dashwanth stating that he could have murdered Sarala.
Police said that jewels were missing from the house and Dashwanth’s phone remains unreachable.
Sekar has strong reasons to believe that his son could be the murderer since he demanded Rs 20,000 for expenses and was denied. Police quoted Sekar as saying that Dashwanth was addicted to drugs of late and demanded money for the same.
“It could have driven him to kill his own mother,” police said.
On Saturday afternoon, Sekar called Dashwanth, but did not get any response. He immediately rushed to his house at Sammandham Nagar in Kundrathur and found Sarala dead. Dashwanth attended the call once after that and switched it off, said police, who are trying to locate him.
The family moved to Kundrathur in September after Dashwanth was released on bail. The couple has another son, who is working in Coimbatore.
Dashwanth, a mechanical engineer, was arrested on charges of raping and murdering a six-year-old girl in Mugalivakkam in February.
Two weeks ago, Dashwanth along with his father confronted the victim’s father Babu, when he appeared before Chengalpattu court, and allegedly threatened him.
