Sudanese woman held for smuggling gold

Customs officials seized 1.14 kg gold worth more than Rs 38.5 lakh from two passengers, including a woman from Sudan, on Saturday and Sunday at Chennai airport.

On Sunday, a 20-year-old passenger who arrived from Dubai was intercepted by the officers at the arrival hall and when checked, he was found carrying 258 gm goldin his rectum.


On Saturday, Customs officers intercepted a woman passenger named Shahid Kamal Abdelgadir Moh, arrived from Dubai, under suspicious condition. During questioning, her replies were evasive a body search was carried out following that. She was found carrying 7 gold bars, weighing 885 gm worth 29.3 lakh, hidden inside her clothes.


The woman was arrested by the Customs for smuggling. “This was her maiden visit to Chennai, But she had been to Hyderabad four times before this,” Customs Department said in a press release.
