Chennai
Suburban train services will commence once again in Chennai from October 7.
But the number of trains to operate has been scaled down to 300 from the usual 450.
This comes as a part of the next 'unlock' phase, relaxing the strict lockdown measures.
The Southern Railways told that the state government is ready to give its consent despite guidelines for functioning of local electric trains are yet to come from the central government.
Railways came to a standstill from the announcement of lockdown on March 25 owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
Only goods train and special trains to commute migrant labourers were operating around the country in the meantime.
Also, a 100 percent staff turnout is allowed from October 1 for the suburban train services.
The frequency of trains and number of trains for stations is still being discussed.
