The police said that the suspect, Nithya alias Nithyanathan, who is twice the victim’s age, was arrested under Pocso Act and attempted-murder charges.

They added that the families of both the victim and the accused lived in the same building in Aminjikarai. On Wednesday evening, neighbours heard the girl crying for help at her house on the first floor after she returned from school and rushed to the spot.

They saw Nithyanathan slitting her throat. In the melee, Nithyanathan managed to flee the spot. The police said that Nithyanandan is a food delivery agent.
