Authorities at Arignar Anna Government Hospital of Indian Systems of Medicine at Arumbakkam are aware that freshwater left stagnant can lead to mosquito breeding, but they continue to store freshwater in open tanks within the hospital premises. According to housekeeping staff, this water is supplied to the washrooms.

Water stagnation has also been bothering patients at Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital especially when it’s near the drinking water supply opposite the casualty block. The matter was brought to the attention of the authorities multiple times as the stagnated water blocks the path from the casualty block to the pharmacy, outpatient block and other places, but in vain.

“The supply of drinking water at the hospital is not managed properly. Hence, the water overflows and collects opposite the casualty building,” said a housekeeping staff at KMC.

Authorities at KMC said that a few renovation works are being carried out at the hospital and the water overflowing problem would be taken care of by next month. The hospital authorities at Arignar Anna Government Hospital of Indian Systems of Medicine did not respond to queries.
