Snatchings continue despite crackdown

Notwithstanding the increased police patrol and vehicle checks, two mobile phone snatching incidents were reported in the city on Tuesday night.

In Kondithope, three persons on a two-wheeler snatched a mobile phone from Mahaveer Kumar (41) of Sakkarakatti Street while he was talking on the phone outside his house. All three accused were wearing helmets to cover their faces, said Seven Wells police, who have registered a case and are investigating the incident.

In another incident, a bike-borne duo snatched a mobile phone from Rajalakshmi of Alwarpet when she was walking on CP Ramasamy Road on Tuesday. A case has been registered with the Mylapore police.

Teen arrested for cellphone snatching

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old youth was caught by the public for allegedly snatching a mobile phone from an auto driver on Tuesday. The incident happened when A Bakthavachalam (50) of Kilpauk, an auto driver, was waiting on Mandapam Road in TP Chatram around 12 pm on Tuesday. On seeing Samuel snatching the phone, passers-by caught him and handed over to the police. The accused, J Samuel (19) of Bujji Naicken Street, has been remanded in judicial custody.
