V Rajasekar and R Thilagavathy of Andipalayam in Tirupur alleged that SI Vijaya Mohan, who was their neighbour, had constructed the house deviating from the approved plan in 2013-14.

When they questioned the official, he allegedly threatened to file false case and put them behind bars, and also sent anti-social elements to their house. The couple said they filed many complaints to the higher officials, Collector and also to the Corporation.

But Vijaya Mohan denied the allegations and argued that the case should be dismissed, as the disputes regarding the construction of the building should be adjudicated before the civil court and not before the Commission.

Recording the submissions, A Chittaranjan Mohandoss, SHRC member who presided over the Commission, said, “Vijaya Mohan had constructed his house by deviating from his approved plan. The Commission finds that he had violated the rights of the couple by threatening them. The government shall pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 and after making such payment, they may recover the amount from the sub-inspector.”
