Dense green landscaping is being created on vacant plots, waterways and outlying areas of the Greater Chennai Corporation using the Miyawaki urban forest system. As part of the project, the corporation officials planted 1,650 saplings of 30 different species in a landscape of 6,450 square feet at KK Nagar at a cost of Rs 9.85 lakh.

An official release of the corporation said that they have used traditional tree species such as neem, novel, nagalingam, almond, guava, spotodia and bamboo to create Miyawaki trpe dense forest.

Already, the civic body has created Miyawaki type plantation in the city in several localities. It has planted 2,000 saplings on 20,724 sq ft of land at Kotturpuram, 762 saplings on 6000 sq ft of land at Valasarawalkam and 2,800 saplings on 15,586 sq ft land on Model School Road at Sholinganallur zone.
