Showing an increase of more than three degrees Celsius above normal in the past two days, the weather stations at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam in the city on Sunday recorded maximum temperature of 33 degree Celsius and 34.4 degree Celsiusrespectively.

Minimum temperatures, too, registered a significant variation. On Sunday, the minimum temperature recorded in Nungambakkam was 20.3 degree Celsius (2 degree less than normal), while the Meenambakkam weather station recorded 19.6 degree Celsius (2.4 degree less than normal).

“The maximum temperature has remained high for more than two weeks now and are likely to continue as summer sets in,” said officials from the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), adding that the minimum temperatures are likely to dip due to southerly winds.

As per the RMC bulletin, a few places over north interior Tamil Nadu recorded temperature above normal, recording a rise of about 2 degree Celsius to 4 degree Celsius.

The weathermen said that dry weather is likely to prevail across the State for a period of five days from Sunday. The sky is likely to remain clear in Chennai with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 33 degree Celsius and 21 degree Celsius respectively, officialsadded.
