Remand prisoner collapses in Puzhal, declared dead in hospital

42-year-old murder suspect, a remand prisoner lodged in the Puzhal Central prison, collapsed inside the premises and was declared brought dead at the Stanley Medical College Hospital.

He was identified as Vinayagam of Thai Moogambigai Nagar in Anakaputhur. He was arrested last month on murder charges and was lodged in Block-I of Central prison. Prison authorities said that Vinayagam suddenly got seizure on Sunday morning and collapsed. After he was given first-aid at the hospital, he was rushed to Stanley Medical College Hospital as his condition worsened. However, doctors declared him brought dead and sent his body for autopsy. A case has been registered at Puzhal police station.
