The announcement of populist schemes in the AIADMK poll manifesto completely will block the path for fund allocation for developmental activities, charged Anbumani Ramadoss, PMK youth wing leader and the CM candidate of the party.

In a statement issued on Friday, he said that the offers made in the manifesto by Jayalalithaa would increase the debt of Tamil Nadu to Rs 5,15,000, thereby hindering all developmental plans, he added.

“I am surprised by the amount of ignorance that has gone into making this manifesto. It is a known fact that the state is already facing as debt of over Rs 1 lakh crore. Moreover, in the last five years of the AIADMK rule, it has risen to Rs 2,47,000 crore. The annual interest paid by government alone is estimated at Rs 23,000 crore,” Anbumani pointed out.

“The economic condition of Tamil Nadu is at a low ebb at present. In such a situation, this kind of populist schemes will not augur well for the state and it will certainly reduce the chances for emerging out of the current debt economy to a surplus economy,” he said.
