Ramadoss, in his letter sent to leaders of various political parties, on Thursday drew their attention to several cases in which women were abused, tortured or forced to commit suicide.

He requested them to give a united call to ensure women’s safety, rights and dignity in the state. Referring to the cases of Vinodhini of Karaikal, Vidhya of Adambakkam, Vinupriya of Salem, Swathi of Choolaimedu and Naveena of Villupuram, the PMK founder said all of them were victims of stalking or love intrigue.

To put an end to such horrific incidents, he made a few suggestions like marriage age for women should be raised to 21 from 18 or those aged below 21 and opting for love marriage should get the parents’ approval.

Government should deploy police in all important places and ladies special buses in all districts, to ensure the safety of college-girls and working women. Stalkers who harass women should booked under non-bailable sections.
