Pedestrian fatally knocked down by MTC bus

A physically challenged woman was fatally knocked down by a speeding MTC bus at Triplicane on Friday when she tried to cross the road.

Police said Amudha Rathi (45), a resident of Ayodhyakuppam, was fatally knocked down by the MTC bus, route number 12G, when she tried to cross the road near Lady Willington School on Friday morning. The woman died on the spot. The Anna Square traffic police rushed to the spot and shifted her body to the hospital. Police then arrested the MTC driver on charges of rash and negligent driving. The residents, who gathered at the accident spot, complained to the police about rash and negligent driving by MTC bus drivers in the locality.
