Reports say the victim’s  half-burnt body was noticed by some people passing by. They immediately alerted the Viralimalai police, based on which the cops rushed to the site and recovered the body.

After an intense probe, the identity of the deceased was established as P Devi, who had written Class 12 board examinations and was awaiting the result. Since her parents committed suicide few years ago, the girl was under the care of her maternal uncle. She was reportedly missing since Friday evening.   Police suspect that the killers could have sexually abused the girl before setting her ablaze in a bid to conceal her identity. However, nothing can be confirmed until the post mortem report is received, said police sources.

Viralimalai police have registered a case and are investigating.
