CHENNAI: Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner J Kumaragurubaran on Tuesday said 2,37,619 voters have been identified as “no mapping” cases in the draft electoral roll, as their details were not found in the previous Special Intensive Revision carried out in 2002 and 2005.
He said notices would be issued to the identified voters, after which enquiries would be conducted at the level of Assistant Electoral Registration Officers. Based on the enquiry, voters would be required to submit any one of the 13 documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India, following which a final decision would be made on their eligibility.
The Election Commission has listed 13 documents that voters may submit to establish eligibility during verification. These include identity cards or pension payment orders issued by Central or State governments or PSUs, birth certificates, passports, educational certificates, permanent residence certificates, Forest Rights Certificates, caste certificates, and entries in the National Register of Citizens where applicable.
Family registers prepared by State or local authorities, government-issued land or house allotment certificates, and Aadhaar, subject to Election Commission guidelines, are also accepted.
The commissioner said voters aggrieved by the decision could file a first appeal before the District Election Officer or Commissioner concerned. A second appeal could be submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer, Chennai, through a review petition.
