Artisans and weavers from across 14 states will display handloom and handicrafts at the exhibition

Over 100 weavers display their craft

The artisans of the Gramin Hastkala Vikas Samiti from across the country will be in the city to exhibit their ethnic weaves, traditional pure silk and cotton products in the National Silk and Handicrafts Expo that begins today at the Kalakshetra Foundation, Thiruvanmiyur.

More than 100 designers and weavers are part of this year’s exhibition which includes gorgeous Up-padas, Banaras silks, Gadwals, Dharmavaram, Jam danis, Jamawars and Sambalpuris

From sarees, dress materials to jewellery, home decor from each region of the country; the exhibition will provide shoppers with a kaleidoscope of India’s colour, diversity and talent.  

The organiser of this exhibition, Jayesh Kumar Gupta said that the main objective is to promote weavers and provide a market to the handloom industry. “Through these exhibitions, we have been able to create good market for the weavers and their handwoven materials,” he said.
