Now, drug toffees haul in Villupuram

In the continuing raids against ‘drug chocolates’ across the state, several kilos of similar toffees were seized from a godown at Kandasamy layout in Villupuram town on Monday.

Last week, a schoolboy was admitted to a hospital in a serious condition after consuming ‘drug’ chocolates which was sold in a shop at RK Nagar in Chennai. Following this, officials conducted searches at various places across the state against ‘drug’ chocolates and tobacco products. 

During such raids, drug chocolates were seized from many areas including Theni and Salem. In Kovilpatti, a huge quantity of similar toffees was found abandoned near a burial ground.Couple of days after the seizure at Theni, food safety officials on Monday raided a godown in Villupuram and seized several kilos of drug chocolates. 

While the officials were planning to take the legal course to seal the godown, they have also decided to intensify the raids in the entire Villupuram district. Officials say bhang golees are sometimes consumed during festivities.
