According to an official, the blue coloured bins would be kept at the entrances of the zonal offices for the next one week starting from August 10 to August 17. “Public can drop their e-waste at the bins and it will be handed over to recyclers for safe disposal,” the official said.

Residents can drop their disused computers, mobile phones, laptops, headphones, cables, printers, fax machines, cameras and other small household appliances.

While many residents’ welfare associations are periodically conducting special camps to collect electronic waste from residents, this is the first time Corporation has taken such an initiative.

Once the e-waste is collected, recyclers would treat them to remove dust and contamination. Then, the devices would be dismantled either manually or mechanically. The third step involves the segregation of the dismantled components into hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
