Nomination for local body polls to end on Tuesday

Tuesday will be the last date for submission of nomination papers for the ensuing local body elections in the state. The polls have been scheduled to be conducted in two phases — October 17 and 19.

The AIADMK candidates contesting for municipal and town panchayat board would submit their papers on Tuesday. Similarly, all the other political party candidates — DMK, Congress, PMK, BJP, DMDK and TMC and independents are also expected to submit their papers by tomorrow. Already the AIADMK candidates for 12 municipal corporations have submitted their nominations and launched their campaign. 

Necessary security arrangements have been made at nomination venues as a large number of candidates would arrive to file their papers on the last day. The State Election Committee has made extensive arrangements to expedite the process in all the centres.

EVMS will be used in the democratic exercise for urban bodies such as corporation, municipalities, town panchayats and to elect councillors. Whereas paper ballots will be used for posts such as district panchayat councillor, union councillor, panchayat president and panchayat ward member. 

The Paper Audit Trail for the EVM’s would remain white. Paper ballots would be printed after the announcement final list of candidates which is scheduled on October 6.
