New equipment for flood relief works

Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani, Fisheries minister D Jayakumar and Revenue minister RB Udhayakumar have distributed tree cutting machines, generators and pump sets to carry out flood and disaster relief works in Chennai.

According to a Greater Chennai Corporation press release, the civic body had procured 200 tree cutting machines with 5 HP capacity at a cost of Rs 1.18 crore. “Thirty pump sets at a cost of Rs 1.48 crore and 6 hydraulic tree cutting machines to cut branches at 8-meter high at cost of Rs 1.19 crore were also bought. Apart from this, the civic body also has procured 100 generators at Rs 1 crore,” a Corporation official said.


Apart from distributing 336 machines, bought at Rs 4.86 crore, the ministers also released the telephone of directory consisting of various departments that take part in disaster management.


The new machines will augment already existing 171 tree cutting machines and 17 high power motor pumps that are functioning.
