Residents raised a concern that the dog could have been killed for its meat as the body was missing. Following a complaint, the police have registered a case over the death of the dog. 

An FIR was filed based on a complaint by A Padmaraj, a resident of MM Colony. The complainant claimed that the dog, which was aged four and brown in colour, gave birth to three puppies last month and everybody on his street used to feed them. The female stray, which had food at Padmaraj’s house on Friday afternoon, did not return. After he lodged a complaint about the missing dog at the Aminjikarai police station, Padmaraj received information on Sunday that a dog was found dead on Cooum riverbed near Muthumariamman temple. To his shock, the dog was found to be decapitated with its legs chopped off, body skinned and torso missing. 

He immediately alerted the Aminjikarai police and the dog’s remains were retrieved and handed over to Blue Cross. The Aminjikarai police confirmed that they had registered a case and are combing the CCTV footage retrieved from the locality.  The manner in which the dog was skinned points to the hand of someone who butchers goats, leading to concerns that the meat is being sold for food.
