The accused, Vetriveeran of Tiruvalluvar Street in Puzhal, and the deceased, Sajini (38), got married 20 years ago and the couple has two daughters aged 19 and 17.

Though theirs was a love marriage, the couple separated six years ago due to differences. After the separation, their daughters went to stay with their aunt’s house in Avadi to pursue education.

Meanwhile, Vetriveeran compromised with Sajini and brought her back to their house in Puzhal and they moved in together to a new house in the locality.

However, an argument broke out between them on Wednesday night, which lasted the whole night. Around 4 am, infuriated, Vetriveeran took a kitchen knife and stabbed Sajini several times on her chest and abdomen.

While she died on the spot, Vetriveeran went to the Puzhal police station with the weapon and informed sub-inspector Jayanthi, who was present at the station, that he murdered his wife. The police seized the weapon and secured him.

A team of police personnel rushed to his house and retrieved Sajini’s body to send it for post-mortem examination to Government Stanley Hospital. A case has been registered and Vetriveeran has been arrested under charges of murder. Further investigation is on.
