The accused, Ramesh of Guruvaraja Kandigai, was a construction labourer. Ramesh reached Kavarapettai police station on his two-wheeler and told the police at the station that he murdered his wife Pushpa (39). A police team rushed to his house and found Pushpa lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit. The knife used for the assault was recovered from the spot and Pushpa’s body was sent to Ponneri Government Hospital for postmortem.

During the investigation, Ramesh told police that his wife was in an affair with a neighbour in the village which irked him. “The couple has often fought over it and recently Pushpa left for her parents’ house in Vengal. On April 13, she returned home after the couple compromised,” said police.

However, the next day Ramesh allegedly saw his wife speaking to the paramour, which irked him. On Wednesday night, a quarrel broke out between the couple again. However, after Pushpa fell asleep, Ramesh slit her throat with a kitchen knife and murdered her.

Kavarapettai police arrested Ramesh under murder charges and remanded him in judicial custody on Thursday. The couple has two daughters and a son. While their daughters were married off, the son is with a relative of Pushpa in Andhra Pradesh.
